Using meditation media
Meditation is a very effective way to reduce stress and increase relaxation. It can energize you so that you’re more productive, and it can help you cope with anxiety and depression. But learning to meditate is not always as easy as it sounds. Many people need instruction on how to do it, and help with staying focused. One of the easiest and most affordable ways to do with media: CDs, MP3s or DVDs that teach you to meditate and help you complete meditation sessions.
Group classes are another good alternative, but they don’t fit everyone’s schedule. Some people are shy about being in group classes. Or you may not live in an area where meditation classes are available. Or you may be unable to leave your home.
However you go about learning meditation, it will take some effort on your part. You must determine to control your impatience and follow instructions carefully. With a CD, MP3 or DVD, this is even more true, because the “teacher” cannot see you getting antsy or taking phone calls or quitting early to go do something else, and therefore can’t convince you to stick with it. You alone determine your success.
In addition to using meditation media at home, there are meditation CDs and MP3s you can play in the car during a commute or at work during breaks. There are CDs of music designed to help you sleep more restfully or concentrate better when you’re working, which you can play during those activities. You must put some thought into choosing these in order to get the best results. For example, if you find your commute to work stressful, you may want to choose a meditation designed to make you rise above that stress. But if you enjoy your commute, you may want to listen to a meditation about having more self-confidence, or any spiritual or self-development topic that appeals to you.
A great way to choose the right meditation media is to buy online. You can usually listen to a sample before purchasing, which will help you ensure you’re getting a meditation that feels right to you. Bookstores also provide listening stations and will generally open any meditation CD you want to hear before purchasing.
