Weightlifting is great in and of itself, but it can also improve your performance in other sports.
Professional athletes lift weight as part of a standard training routine. Many of them focus on parts of the body they need to strengthen in order to play better at their chosen sport. A batter will work on upper body strength to hit balls further and faster while a runner would concentrate more on her legs and hips to speed up her movement.
All the other advantages of weight lifting can also help improve your athletic performance. Weight lifting leads to:
- Improved stamina – stronger muscles work longer with less fuel (more efficiently).
- Lower body fat – make every pound of your body work toward your athletic goals.
- Endorphin rushes – over time, the buzz you get from a good weight lifting session can lead to improved happiness and positivity. Attitude means a lot in sports.
